Tip for those who played last year
We've made a couple of minor updates, but have stayed faithful to the same story as last year. If you’re looking for a fresh game to try, have a look at our new Christmas mystery, Christmas Eve in Little Smithering, or our travel-inspired mystery, Peril at the Edge of the World.
Made with love in London, England.
There were a lot of things that were unclear to us on this game. We considered hints as a last resort, so tried our best to work things out without them, But with no clear direction, that proved difficult, so we had to use the hints. One of which tells us to move back 3 spaces in the alphabet when you are meant to move forward 3 spaces. Some of the clues were really cool, but others were not clear at all, unless you get the hints. So it must be more clear that you have to look at the first hints first to know what to do. The story was all over the place, and the accomplice came out of the blue.
While things didn't make sense, it was still a cool thing to do with the family on Christmas day. We just didn't like that we didn't have a clue what to do without the hints. We did solve it correctly, but not without all the hints first. So that was frustrating.
Still a cool concept. Just hard to pay this much when we have to get it shipped across the pond.
My family wants me to give this 2 stars, but I'm giving it 3 because we all did it together.
Spent an enjoyable Christmas eve playing this and got the solution almost entirely right without opening the hints. The time of murder wasn't confirmed which was annoying but would definitely play another
We loved opening this every other day in December and then sitting down as a family today on Christmas Eve to do the puzzles and solve the case. It’s so well pitched. There were parts our 6 and 9 year old could do, and plenty to tax the brains of the adult we absolutely loved it.
Lots of fun for our family as we counted down each evening to Christmas. Had us puzzled a good few times and lots of fun trinkets along the way
Gift from my parents to us and our teens. We had two- Day 6 envelopes, which confused our sleuthing. Some clues were straight answers without any need to "solve". A couple puzzles were basically the same answer. Miswording in a Hint that threw us again. No real storytelling to give chase or excitement. Really, any mystery can be hard the more vague you make the setup, and this is very vague. Highly requires the "Full Reveal" monologue to explain reason to it all. For $60, it could have been much better. Was hoping to live 12 days through a murder mystery, and ended up spending several days just trying to unlock words, that at best, were "solutions" but still didnt tie a story together well. Never the "aha!! It all makes sense!" Moment. Still, could be great one day.
